Our Story

The mission of Little Buddhas Yoga is to keep children of all ages deeply connected to the truth in their hearts, and healthy enough to live out this truth to the fullest extent possible.  We believe that this knowing and being is innate in every child, and that simple practices based in joy and attention can bring children closer in every moment. We are here to serve the structures in society that serve children, be they homes, schools, libraries, community centers, medical facilities, or otherwise.  We are here to serve the children, from birth through adulthood, and to serve the teachers and caregivers that guard and guide this journey.

In 2000, Courtney Schroeder and Diane Hamilton each began their own personal yoga journey.  The practice of yoga for each of them quickly became a daily practice offering transformation, empowerment, and clarity.  Diane and Courtney traveled independent paths of yoga and motherhood until 2013, when these parallel souls found one another through teaching at a common location, Jillian’s Drawers, in Ithaca, New York.

The two found an immediate connection in the passion of their vision for children and their commitment to traditional yoga philosophy.  They immediately began collaborating on area yoga initiatives and learned from one another’s teaching methods. As impassioned storytellers, they thrived in learning new stories from one another.

As they planned their first teacher training together in 2015, Diane and Courtney found great inspiration and joy in their collaborative approach to writing manuals, sharing knowledge and leading a team of learners.  Diane holds the space, Courtney lights it on fire, Diane returns with cool water, they both run through splashing until it’s time to lie down and rest in the beauty.

When Courtney decided to move back to California in 2017, it was clear that the integrated partnership would not separate, and thus Little Buddhas Yoga – Coast to Coast, was born.

Courtney and Diane live in constant journey with their yoga practice and the dynamic nature of the give and take this practice brings to motherhood, twenty-first-century politics, and changing generations of schooling and children.

We enjoy learning from hundreds of new children each year and hope that your bright, shining being will be one of our teachers too.
